Remove tension from the body and mind
Massage is widely known as a science and art to destress the muscles in our bodies. Did you know, it can also be beneficial for our brain health? The body and mind are connected. Massage can help strengthen that connection in revitalizing our brain health by reducing chronic stress and improving mental health which can benefit those with neurological illnesses or psychiatric dysfunctions such as depression, anxiety, and insomnia. Massage therapy can unwind the stress-related tension warehoused in our muscles and our minds.
Why is Massage Good for Mental Health?
Depression, anxiety, OCD, and ADHD are common mental health conditions that people are experiencing now more than ever. These conditions often coincide with low levels of serotonin and dopamine in the brain. Regular massages can help boost these levels, promoting a sense of balance and mental clarity. When we experience stress, the body tends to tense up and hold onto that tension. Releasing this tension can reduce built-up emotional stress, which, over time, can have a detrimental effect on well-being. The nurturing and healing effects of massage therapy can make a significant difference, helping people feel more grounded and aligned with their best selves.
Living in a busy, fast-paced city is a common source of mental health challenges and stress. It's easy for tension to accumulate in the body, leading to emotional and mental imbalances. Massage offers a dedicated time for self-care and relaxation, helping to release this tension.
Did you know? "One in five Americans are impacted by Seasonal Affective Disorder, leaving many feeling depressed and lethargic. Studies show that regular massages can improve mood and reset circadian rhythms, leading to better sleep, improved energy, and an overall uplift in mood."—American Massage Therapy Association
Massage Benefits and its Positive Effects on Mental Health
Decreased Irritability
Reduced Anxiety
Improved Sleep Cycle
Refreshed Bodily Function
““Beyond its specific treatment benefits, people enjoy massage because it often involves caring physical comfort, a sense of empowerment and a connection with a massage therapist. Massage not only relaxes the body but it also comforts the brain by helping to release pain reducing hormones through the central nervous system, due to the pleasurable and relaxing feelings that massage creates. Most people who receive a massage don’t want it to end because it feels good to get rid of muscular tension. Sometimes we don’t know what we’re holding onto until massage treatment alleviates the holding patterns within the muscles.” - Robin Ehrlich, founder of Eastside Massage Therapy
Massage Suggestions
For extremely tight muscles and knots from everyday use (working out, physically taxing jobs, lifestyle), book a Deep Tissue massage to relieve the serious tension from the chronic muscle aches, pains, or strain. If you bruise easily, we do not recommend this massage.
For stress induced tension (muscle tightness & fatigue, emotional stress, older age, insomnia, jetlag), book a Swedish or Signature Therapeutic massage for a moderate to gentle (your preference) pressure massage. This massage includes a lot of stroking and kneading.
